The Terror by Dan Simmons – I know a show exists based on this book, but I actually haven’t seen it yet! Anyway, I’m dying to read it, but at the same time, Simmons and his 700+ page books also terrify me.Ĭommunion by Whitley Strieber – I’m told this is one of the more horrifying books out there. (In case you can’t tell, the monster in this book is a Megalodon shark.) Sure there was plenty of carnage in that one beach scene- but if you’re going to call it horror, you gotta kill off more of the main cast. ![]() Meg by Steve Alten – If I’m being honest, I thought the movie was kind of lame. The monster in this book is described as a chimeric fish, reptile, primate, insect… thing. Relic by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child – The first of the Pendergast novels. So instead, in honor of my favorite month for all things scary, here are some of the monster books on my TBR! ![]() Unfortunately, I don’t do as much of the latter as I’d like. From the Chupacabra to the Mothman, Nessie to Big Foot- I want to watch it, I want to read it. My favorite kind of horror always involves monsters. ![]()

Meanwhile, as cultural issues have gained prominence, the priorities and constituencies of business and the GOP have diverged. As this shift has occurred, business leaders who once seemed natural allies began to look more like part of the elite that conservatives distrust and disdain. The party has obviously become more populist and working class over time, a change exemplified by Donald Trump. And there is a real political upside for the GOP in this new dynamic, which should make it easier for it to rebut the charge it is simply a tool of big business that has dogged it at least since the days of Herbert Hoover. But now the two sides are entering a period of active hostilities. The Washington Post ran an interview titled, “Here’s the history of how big business lost control of the GOP,” back in 2013. That relationship, once a key element of the GOP coalition, has been under strain for quite some time. Even if Disney ends up retaining the district in some form, the lightning-fast strike by the Legislature feels like an inflection point in the relationship of the Republican Party to big business. ![]() ![]() ![]() It should also be noted that he knew nothing about sailing prior to becoming a pirate. We already had an established cast of characters from the first four books, we didn’t need a bunch of new ones. It felt so dragged out, and I honestly didn’t care about Conner’s characters. I’m pretty sure it’s every writer’s dream to go hang out in the world they created with their characters, but this plot felt like complete filler. This one mostly follows Conner and Alex as they venture into Conner’s stories in order to recruit his characters to help them in fairytale world.
